THE RIDE

We will begin at the Famous Pink Cadillac Diner at 4347 South Lee Hwy, Natural Bridge, VA 24578.  Check in will begin at 8:00am (PCD opens at 7) and KSU/first out will be at 9:00am.

We've set a simple and scenic route to allow you to enjoy the colors of fall throughout Lexington, Rockbridge, Bath and Alleghany Counties. The route itself is only about 60 miles but it will take a minimum of 2 hours.

We strongly recommend that you stop and enjoy any or all of the interesting sites and attractions along the way. Go ahead, take that camera out and capture some of the most breathtaking scenery in the States of Virginia and West Virginia.

THERE IS NO SET TIME FOR ARRIVING AT THE END SITE

We will start out heading North on Route 11 on our way to Historic Lexington with all of its shops and restaurants. On the way through town, you'll be passing Stonewall Cemetery, The Jackson House Museum, Washington and Lee University and Virginia Military Institute (VMI), each of them worth stopping and checking out.

We will then turn West (left) on Route 39 passing the Virginia Horse Center and then meandering through the Goshen Pass.

The quaint Town of Goshen is about the midway point of the ride and a great place to stop and stretch your legs or get gas and a snack (don't eat too much).

Continue on Route 39W to a left turn onto Douthat State Park Road #629 for the final 20 miles through the forest, continuing through the park to the Clifton Forge Shrine Club parking lot (shuttle buses will complete the journey).

As you drive through the park you will undoubtedly experience the smell of bbq wafting through the Whispering Pines Campground which is the site of the CAMPSITE COOK-OFF and OKTOBERFEST.

This CAMPSITE COOK-OFF is different than most. The cooks won’t know what type of meats they will be cooking until they arrive at the event.

You will be able to visit each of the 21 campsites (teams) and sample their BBQ.

This is a judged competition with the winning team receiving $1,000.00 so they ALWAYS bring their best.

If you still want more (or just different) food, there will be other options available for purchase.

Devils Backbone will be on site with a selection of their famous beers. Several local wineries will be on hand selling their tasty products.

There will also be a SELECT group of vendors and craftspeople offering their wares for sale throughout the campground.

You won't want to miss the entertainment stage featuring a number of bands with a variety of musical styles being presented throughout the day.
